Photo Guidelines

The quality of the photo has a big impact on the quality of the final portrait, so please choose carefully. Photos taken at a professional photography studio work best. When using other photos, please follow these guidelines for the best result:

  • The person's face should be clear and at least 1" x 1" in size in the photo.
  • Photos taken indoors make better portraits than outdoor photos.
  • If your photo was taken outdoors, avoid ones with strong sunlight shadows on faces, as these shadows may not look good in a portrait.
Liang also specializes in recreating old photographs. These photos often don't show much detail in people's faces, but a drawing or painting makes a wonderful keepsake: old photographs fade over the years, while a portrait lasts much longer.

If your photo doesn't meet these guidelines, Liang will still do her best, but please keep in mind that the quality of the photo affects the quality of the portrait.

Special Requests

Liang can take on special requests such as:
  • Combining people from separate photos into one portrait
  • Combining the face from one photo with the clothing from another
The following requests are possible but not recommended, as the altered portrait may not look like the real person:
  • Removing eyeglasses
  • Changing a hairstyle
  • Removing braces
  • Changing facial features, such as removing wrinkles or a double chin, or making a face slimmer
For any of these requests, please supply photos of all the extra elements you'd like included.

Example: if you'd like a beach background in your portrait, please send a photo of the beach as well as the photo of the person.

Please be as specific as possible about any changes when you email Liang for a quote. Depending on how difficult the special request is, an extra fee may apply.
